Bird Watching at Hinterland Village is as luxurious and comfortable than any other birding sites in Kochi. Hinterland Village and also its surrounding paddy fields attract a vast majority of birds including the migrating ones.

The Birds found in the village includes all three types of Cormorants found in India namely Indian Cormorant, Great Cormorant and Little Cormorant. A vast majority of Bitterns, herons and egrets such as the Grey Heron, Eastern Great Egret, Western Reef Heron, Little Bittern, Indian Pond Heron and also a good population of Cattle Egret. Brahminy Kite (Kaizan) and Black Kite (Samurai) are two of our pet kites who likes attention and pose for photos. Apart from them a good number of other Brahminy Kites and also Black Kites visit our property.

A good number of Rock Pigeon and Nilgiri Wood Pigeon are seen along with Alexandrine Parakeets, Rose Ringed Parakeets, Blue Winged Parakeet and Vernal Hanging Parrots. From the Cuckoo species Hinterland and its areas is a major nesting ground for Indian Cuckoos, and Common Cuckoo. The typical Owl species found in Hinterland Village includes the Mootled Wood Owl, Brown Wood Owl and if you are lucky enough then a Brown Fish Owl (Only once it has been spotted). The Kingfishers include Common Kingfisher, White Throated Kingfisher and also Stork Billed Kingfisher. Black Rumped Flameback Woodpeckers are commonly seen in the jungle gym and its surrounding parts, and so as the famous Orioles. In the Bulbul species Flame- throated Bulbul, Red Whiskered Bulbul and Red vented bulbul are seen. A vast population of Purple Sunbird and Crimson-backed Sunbirds can be spotted in the village. Commonly found Drongo species include Black Drongo, Racket tailed Drongo and also Ashy Drongo. A good number of House Sparrows, Greater Coucal and Yellow throated Sparrows can be seen just outside the house or in the grasslands.
