Hinterland is as green as green can be, in all directions and all possible shades.
• To one side of your dwelling is the lush green grassland with rabbits and squirrels ambling through and making it their home. The two-poled shelters of the grassland nestles 2 of our beloved Kaizan and Samurai (Brahminy Kite and Black Kite) who are so possessive about each other and like to pose for photos. This is definitely the best spot to sit back and relax amidst the pristine nature. This area is also the best spot to admire the birds or catch the splendour of the setting sun at dusk.

This area is also where we arrange you an outdoor camping or a barbeque upon request, which would be a special attraction during the months of November and December when the climate is at its best.

• Neighbouring the grassland is the Bamboo Grove on the far east of the house. The grove has an impressive variety of bamboo species; all members of the world are fastest growing woody plant family. An excellent afternoon can be had walking around the shady clumps, nibbling on a fresh shoot of bamboo, and listening to the poles creaking in the wind. If you are lucky enough, it may even be flowering time for some of them.

• The Aquazone comprises two natural ponds, one bigger than the other. In the big one are many kinds of ornamental fish, all brought with intense research and care that would suit the environment and also thewater of Hinterland. It would be such a delightful experience to feed our ornamental fish that it loves to nibble your hand on any given occasion. The second and the smaller pond have got edible fish of many kinds, again cared for by the villagers. If you fancy your chances as an angler, then this is the place for you.

• Close by the small fishpond is the pool which also has ornamental fish but it has been built to serve the needs of our 8 geese and an inform team of ducks. The geese and ducks can be seen strolling through out the 7 acres during the course of the day nibbling on grass and insects. They are accompanied by few of our beloved fancied hens.

• Latexland is the first thing you would see the time you arrive into the village. Here you can saunter among the rubber trees, as well as learn how the latex is collected in coconut shells from each tree after workers cut the bark methodically, and how it is processed and dried into sheets. In short, an educational experience which involves little effort and much pleasure.

• Towards the rear is the Orchard with a thriving collection of fruit trees and vegetable plants. These include ones producing mangoes, jackfruit, cashew, figs, and bananas, not to mention coconuts and area fruits. Plus plants that yield good things for the kitchen such as pineapples, tapioca, pumpkins, and melons. A bonus is a carefully cultivated site on which grow plants related to the zodiac signs and the asterisms, or lunar houses, on the Malayalam calendar.

• Adjoining this is the Spice Route, an area with a wide selection of spices and herbs used in almost all cuisines. They flourish as in the days they were Kerala's trump card in the world market. There is pepper, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric, mustard, chillies, and herbs such as basil, coriander, cumin and bay leaves.

• Stretching out to the back is the Jungle Gym, a terrain filled with hardy deciduous forest veterans such as teak, mahogany and rosewood, and various other specimens endemic to Kerala's tropical climate. A superb place to spot Mootled Wood Owl, Alexandrine Parakeets and some of the best millipedes species that exists in the tropical climate. The Jungle Gym ofHinterland was recently honoured to have a newly discovered Bright Coloured Tree Frog (Philautus Kani) in the wet and damp areas of the adventurous terrain. This place is superb for ornithologists and also entomologists or even for the young at heart to ramble on for hours on end to study about the flora and fauna of the Indian Forests.

Everything that grows, or is grown, in Hinterland Village is fertilised the organic way and all waste is recycled. The water comes out of a big well that never goes dry.

The villagers take immense care of the flora and fauna as much as the way we do it for our guests, as 100% satisfaction is our mission in the Village.
